Drivers stumped for car park now offered another option

-

The pressure on city centre parking spaces is set to ease a little after a car park reopened.

A 110-space car park has reopened at Bath Cricket Club on North Parade, more than two years after it closed to start work on a 136-bed development which includes a new indoor cricket centre for the club.

The car park, inset, has been extremely popular with both visitors and shoppers to the city, as well as

Bath Rugby supporters on match days. It is also handy for Parade Gardens, for Bath Pavillion and the law courts, for Bathwick and Widcombe and for the pedestrian staircase up to the locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

“We’re delighted to reopen our car park as it has always played a significant role in offering more parking to the local community, visitors to the city, and to our players, members, and supporters,” said the chairman Matthew Hankins.

“In particular, the car park will make it more convenient for those that participate in our all-year-round coaching programmes.

“Our cricket club plays a highly active role on the field and in the local community and our newly reopened car park will continue to play an important role for the Bath community.”

The car park which has been operating for more than 50 years will now use licence platerecognition software to provide a cashless facility and will not only offer Bath an additional 110 spaces, but it will also provide dedicated disabled parking, and electric vehicle charging points in the future to cater for the increasing number of plug-in cars.

There will also be a strictly limited number of all year-round guaranteed parking permits available.
