Podcasts on health help thousands

-

An online resource for people with rheumatic diseases in Bath is celebrating providing help to over 10,000 people.

The podcast library of Bath Institute for Rheumatic Diseases gives information to patients, families and carers on advances in treatments and therapies and on how to live well with the symptoms of rheumatic diseases.

The 10,000 listens represent 500 per cent more patients reached each year than through BIRD’S previous programme of live events.

Thirty-six podcasts have been produced since 2020 on rheumatic diseases such as lupus, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, as well as on self-management and wellbeing.

Cara Charles-barks, RUH chief executive, said: “In only two years, a remarkable library has evolved. Good luck with the next 10,000 listens!”

Each podcast features experts in the field of rheumatology from the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. In a recent patient survey, 74% of respondents said their knowledge of their condition had improved, 75% said hearing the voices of clinicians and professionals was reassuring and almost 60% now felt less isolated.
