Racing Demon

Who do you turn to if you’re struggling at work?

That’s the dilemma facing vicar Lionel Espy in David Hare’s awardwinning play presented by Next Stage Theatre Company.

You can try talking to a God, of course, but it’s tricky when your faith is wavering, and both your congregation and bishop have lost confidence in you. Then along comes a younger, more charismatic rival...

Originally written in 1990, this fascinating glimpse into the working lives of the clergy remains fiercely topical today.

Part of a trilogy looking at different British institutions, Hare portrays a world in which religious faith is confronted by the everyday problems of society. Is faith enough? And what are its limits?

John William Richard

Often things come full circle. As a child, John William Richard’s love affair with music began as a classically trained musician, with hours spent studying the piano and cello.

However, a lifetime has been spent elsewhere, from, amongst other things, fronting a new romantic group, managing artists, starting a label and running a nightclub.

With the release of his debut album: Song for a Ghost, in 2021, John William Richard returned to the rigour of the classical tradition, mixing that with flashes of contemporary electronica, creating something that is both intimate and breathtakingly cinematic.
