Seconds’ unbeaten run grows

With the Men’s Hockey League and Vitality Women’s League taking a break at the weekend, all attention turned to the West Area Leagues ahead of their own half-term break this weekend.

In the men’s divisions, Team Bath Buccaneers 2nd continued their unbeaten start in the Premier Division with a 7-0 thrashing at University of Exeter 3rd. The third team won 3-1 at home to Old Bristolian­s in Division One North for their second win of the campaign, while City of Bath suffered their second defeat - losing 4-1 at home to Chippenham.

Buccs 4th enjoyed a 5-0 win at home to Newent in Division Two East to continue their unbeaten start. In Concorde Division One, Keynsham secured their third win of the season with a 7-3 success over Weston-super-mare at Wellsway School. They remain three points behind leaders North Somerset 2nd, while bottom side Buccs 6th suffered their third loss with a 3-1 defeat at Clifton Robinsons 6th.

The Buccs derby in Saxon Division One saw the Seventh side cause an upset with a 4-2 win over the Fifths. It was a first win of the season for the sevenths, however they are still six points behind the fifths who are fifth after suffering their first loss. Another local derby saw unbeaten Corsham win 4-1 at Kingswood School against City of Bath 2nd who have won two and lost of their opening four games.

City of Bath’s third team were defeated 7-2 at leaders West Wilts as they continue their search for a first win of the campaign.

In Saxon Division Two, Corsham 2nd drew 3-3 at home to Cirenceste­r 3rd for their seventh point in four games. Keynsham 2nd were beaten for the first time this season, 3-1 at leaders West Wilts 2nd, while bottom side Buccs 8th lost 5-1 at Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd for their third defeat in three games.

In the women’s divisions, Buccs 2nd claimed their third win in the Premier Division with a 2-0 success at home to Redland to remain a point off the leaders. The third team were 3-0 winners at home to Wotton-under-edge in Division One North for their first win of the season, having drawn their previous three.

Corsham gained their third win from four in Division Two East with a narrow 2-1 victory at winless Mendip. They moved level on points with Keynsham following their 4-3 defeat at Clifton Robinsons 4th - their first of the campaign.

In Whitehorse Division One, Buccs 4th continued their unbeaten start after edging past bottom side North Wilts 2nd 3-2. The fifth side drew 3-3 at home to Swindon 2nd for their fifth point of the campaign, while Corsham 2nd also won a five-goal thriller at home to Chippenham 3rd. They move a point above City of Bath who lost 2-1 at West Wilts.

Keynsham 2nd won 3-0 at home to Westberrie­s 4th in Brunel Division One for their first victory of the campaign. Buccs 6th enjoyed a 6-1 win at Corsham 3rd in Whitehorse Division Two to move above them at the top of the table on goal difference, with a game in hand. City of Bath 2nd were beaten 5-1 at home to Devizes 2nd for their second loss of the season. Keynsham 3rd were thrashed 8-1 at unbeaten Berkeley Division Three leaders Wick 2nd as remain without a win.
