Overnight road closure in work to ease traffic
A road junction in Bath city centre will close overnight as part of a scheme to improve traffic flows.
Queen Square will be shut to all drivers between 7pm and 6am on November 7, to allow an area of Old King Street to be resurfaced. The work is weather dependent and may need to be postponed.
During the closure, vehicle detection loops for new traffic lights will be installed and road markings replaced. Diversions will be put in place for motorists.
The work forms part of a wider scheme to improve Queen Square and Gay Street, which began on September 26.
All traffic lights will be replaced and upgraded, while a new pedestrian crossing will be installed and pavements improved.
The junction has remained open since the start of works under a temporary three-way traffic light system. This will remain in place after the overnight closure is lifted. In total, works at the busy junction are expected to take eight to 10 weeks to complete.
Cllr David Wood said: “This is a busy junction in the centre of Bath which means an overnight closure is necessary to get the work done and avoid congestion. We want to minimise any disruption for people and apologise if this essential work causes any inconvenience.”
