There’s much more to Stonehenge

-

My thanks to Nicholas Hales for his recommendation of Otherlands A World In The Making by Thomas Holliday which sounds like the type of book I would like to read, so I will seek out a copy.

I think his assumption that Stonehenge is just a sun worshipping site is a bit limited though.

There is a lot more to the monument than that.

So I will recommend a book in return. “Stonehenge Decoded” by Gerald S. Hawkins explains why Stonehenge was built where it is, and among other things, how it could be used to predict the exact dates of the summer and winter solstices and the two equinoxes, and to predict eclipses of both the sun and moon to an accuracy of about an hour.

It is a fascinating and easily readable book.
