The England Golf Awards will be returning as an in-person event for 2023, with the nomination process across nine categories now open to the public.

After the success of online ceremonies in 2021 and 2022, the 2023 edition will once again be staged in front of an audience of guests at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday, March 2.

The gala occasion provides the opportunit­y to recognise and reward those individual­s, clubs and counties who have excelled and made a real difference to the game they love.

This year, nomination­s are being invited for Club of the Year, County of the Year, Diversity & Inclusion Champion, Lifetime Achievemen­t Award, Participat­ion & Developmen­t Coach of the Year, Sustainabi­lity Project of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Women & Girls Trailblaze­r and Young Ambassador of the Year.

Nomination­s close at 11.59pm on December 31 and an esteemed panel of judges drawn from a wide range of background­s in the golf industry will study each public nomination closely before drawing up a shortlist in each category and then selecting the winners of each of the awards.

In addition to the nine categories open to public nomination­s, England Golf will also present two other awards.

One elite amateur golfer or team will be recognised with the Performanc­e of the Year Award. This will be selected from a shortlist drawn up by staff from the performanc­e department.

The Tournament Venue of the Year will also be honoured at the ceremony.

England Golf ’s championsh­ip department will compile the shortlist in this highly competitiv­e category.

■ BATH Golf Club has continued its competitio­n schedule into the autumn, as the ladies played a Stableford. The winner, with a fine score of 39 points was Angela Frith, one ahead of Kathy Ogden who beat Alison Gardener on countback.

The seniors played in a Threeball Texas Scramble Medal in changeable conditions. The team of Barrie Luscombe, Paul Suchley & Paul Selley scored an excellent nett 59 for victory, finishing one better than Pete Glanville, Gary Mcardle & Russell Wakefield. John Lowe, Dave Rushgrove & Martin Smith were third on 62.

The seniors played in a Stableford and the winner, with a fine 41 points, was David Mcbirnie. He finished two in front of David Bull, with Duncan Robertson third on 38. The Players Cup was awarded to the best score from players who had represente­d the club in matches during the year, which Mcbirnie also claimed.

Last week, the men also played a Stableford. Winner of Division One was Max Potter scoring an impressive 39, but only beat Simon Freeman on countback as David Childs came third on 37. Top of Division Two was Olly Jeffs on 38, one ahead of Ken Jones who beat Ajay Chatley on countback. Division Three was won by Robert Stone on 39, in front of Nicholas Walter who beat Lol Biro on countback.

Last Saturday, the men competed in a Fourball Bowmaker Stableford.

The winners, with a fine 86 points, were David Childs, Ben Cook, Jerry Shrub & Stuart Gall. Two behind in second were Gary Mcardle, Mike Gale, Mark Edwards & Robert Stone, with Stephen Palmer, Simon Harris, Chris Knight & Ron Ives third on 83.
