£100bn for HS2 - and just £17bn for planet
Rishi Sunak, the latest lame duck prime minister, has trumpeted that he is setting aside £17 billion to save the planet. (We’ll have to see if that materialises).
In the meantime, the UK government is pressing ahead with spending £100 billion on building the HS2 high speed rail link, which will connect the two halves of the Birmindon mega-city and rip up ancient woodland in the east of Wessex near our borders with Essex and east England.
