Data concern as council cabinets found in road

-

Filing cabinets and a CD appearing to contain confidential council information were found dumped on a road in Radstock.

A local man came across the rubbish, below, on the Mill Road Industrial Estate and posted photographs on Facebook.

Among the discarded equipment were some cards giving the names and phone numbers of officers employed by Bath and North East Somerset Council.

A disk pertaining to a planning submission for Roseberry Place in Bath was also found, along with some paperwork - presumably for the same project. The filing cabinets also still had paper name labels attached to them.

The man said he imagined the equipment had been stolen from a skip and that he had informed the council about where it was. He took the paperwork with him to “stop it from falling into the wrong hands”.

A Bath and North East Somerset Council spokesperson said: “The two cabinets have been removed, thank you to members of the public for reporting them.

“To report fly-tipping please go to https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/ report-it.”

We asked the council to clarify how the material ended up on an industrial estate in Radstock, but no response has yet been received.
