Ladies move top after leaders can only draw

Team Bath Buccaneers’ ladies have moved to the top of the Vitality Women’s Hockey League Conference West table following their 3-1 win at Reading on Saturday. Previous leaders Oxford Hawks could only draw at Penarth, leaving Buccs with a two point lead after eight games played.

The men have dropped to fifth in the Men’s Hockey League after being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Old Cranleigha­n on Sunday. Buccs now sit ten points off Division One South leaders Southgate ahead of their final fixture before the winter break.

In the West Area leagues, Buccs’ men’s second side also drew. Hosting Bristol Firebrands in the Premier Division, Buccs were held 1-1 and have allowed Cheltenham to move level on points - with Buccs staying top on goal difference. The third team enjoyed a 6-1 win at bottom side Cheltenham 2nd to remain third in Division One North.

Buccs 4th were 3-1 winners at Gloucester City 2nd in Division Two East to continue their unbeaten start and stay two points off leaders Ross On Wye with a game in hand.

In Saxon Division One, Corsham made it seven wins from seven to keep pace at the top with a 3-1 vicgymnast­s tory at Chippenham 3rd. Buccs 5th remain five points behind following their 6-1 thrashing of visiting West Wilts, while the seventh side were beaten by a single goal at Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd.

City of Bath lost 2-0 at unbeaten leaders North Wilts, while their bottom side third team continued to search for their first success of the campaign after going down 4-1 at home to Chippenham 4th.

Concorde Division One leaders made a statement with a 7-0 thrashing of Old Bristolian­s 3rd. Buccs 6th were 3-0 winners at home to Bristol Firebrands 3rd to stay six points off the leaders.

In Saxon Division Two, Keynsham 2nd were narrowly beaten in a seven-goal thriller at Marlboroug­h 2nd to fall three points behind leaders West Wilts 2nd, with a game in hand. Buccs 8th won 3-1 at home to Chippenham 5th to claim their first victory of the campaign. They are now four points behind Corsham 2nd who lost 2-0 at home to Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd.

In the Women’s Competitio­ns, a single goal proved enough for Buccs 2nd to beat hosts Gwent and close the gap unbeaten leaders Clifton Robinsons 2nd to four points. That was emulated by the third team at Cheltenham 2nd in Division One North, claiming just their second win of the season.

Corsham remain two points off Division Two East leaders Royal Wootton Bassett after beating BAC 6-2. Keynsham are now a point behind Corsham after they were held to a 2-2 draw at North Wilts.

In Whitehorse Division One, unbeaten leaders Buccs 4th were 2-0 winners at Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd. City of Bath remain four points behind after matching that scoreline at home to Chippenham 2nd. Buccs 5th are up to sixth after dispatchin­g bottom side Chippenham 5th 5-1. Buccs are now a point ahead of Corsham 2nd who lost 3-2 at Swindon 2nd.

Keynsham 2nd were narrowly beaten 2-1 at home to Westonsupe­r-mare in Brunel Division Two, their fifth defeat of the campaign. Buccs 6th enjoyed a field day at home to West Wilts 2nd, winning 10-0 to make it seven wins from seven at the top.

Corsham sit eight points behind in third despite needing just a single to goal to get past Marlboroug­h 2nd. City of Bath 2nd are three points further behind following their goalless draw at North Wilts 3rd.

Keynsham 3rd were beaten 5-0 at home to Bristol & West Jaspers 3rd in Berkeley Division Third as their search for a first win continues.
