Iconic steam engine will be heading our way
An iconic steam locomotive is set to travel into Bath next week.
The Sir Nigel Gresley A4 class engine will run between London and Bath on Monday.
Many trainspotters will be hoping to catch the locomotive as it makes its way along the Thames Valley and into Wiltshire before reaching Bath.
According to the Steam Dreams Rail Company, guests will be welcomed on board refurbished vintage carriages at London Victoria before the steam-hauled train takes them along the Thames Valley. It will then head out into Wiltshire, “offering views of rolling hills and the famous white horses from their windows”.
A spokesperson for Steam Dreams confirmed that the train would pass through Bedwyn, Pewsey and Woodborough.
Then, as it emerges from the boundaries of the North Wessex Downs, it will follow along as far as Westbury, where it will then head north at Heywood Road Junction, through Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon and tracing the River Avon to Bath. The trip departs London Victoria at 8.45am, reaching Bath by 1pm. On its return, it will leave Bath at 4.50pm, arriving back in the capital at 9pm.
Sir Nigel Gresley was built by the London & North Eastern Railway in 1937. It is named after the company’s then chief mechanical engineer.
