Urgent work to drainage pipe on major route
People are being advised to plan their journeys to Bath over the next few days as emergency works take place along Upper Bristol Road.
A damaged drainage pipe was discovered by Bath and North East Somerset Council as it investigated the cause of standing water not discharging properly on Upper Bristol Road.
Two-way traffic signals were installed at 8am yesterday and will be in place until 3.30pm tomorrow (Friday, December 2).
The damaged pipe needs replacing and as forecasted low temperatures increase the risk of any standing water freezing, the council is implementing temporary traffic management to allow emergency works to take place.
Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for transport, said: “We’re aware Bath is experiencing an influx of visitors now the Christmas Market has begun, but our priority is the safety of the public and therefore these emergency works are necessary.
“The temporary traffic lights will be removed before the weekend.”
