Gifts from near and far at new shop

-

A little shop selling exotic and local treasures has opened in Bath’s artisan hotspot.

Cushy Studios is the brainchild of Bex Luther, Shindig Festival’s creative director.

The festival’s offices have been upstairs at 100 Walcot Street for years, while the downstairs unit lay empty.

But now Bex has decided to put it to good use, selling gifts, homewares, jewellery and ceramics from artisans in Bath and further afield.

She and her little daughter Roma opened the store just this week, and Bex said everyone had been “really sweet”.

“I’m a decorator and I’ve really transformed the place. We’re looking forward to the Christmas market and all the trade that brings to Bath. Hopefully, some people will drift up this way and find our shop.

“We are going to be offering latenight shopping on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so you can pop up here for a mulled wine or cider in the evenings. We also offer coffee from the Roundhill Roastery in Radstock and vegan hot chocolate.”

The tea at Cushy Studios comes from the Teahouse Emporium on Union Passage and the beautiful handmade mugs for sale have been crafted by local potter, Emma Chapman.

There is also an opportunity to get your hands on Ria Burns’ cosy knitted mitts and clothing by Amy Isles Freeman.

Yet, while Bex hopes to showcase local artisans in her new shop, there are also exotic items from further afield on offer, such as dolls made by women in Delhi who have survived domestic abuse, and scarves woven in the foothills of the Himalayas.

With so many treasures to behold, you’ll struggle to leave empty-handed.
