Over 10,000 in Bath to get rise in Living Wage

-

More than 10,000 people in Bath are set to benefit from an increase to the National Living Wage.

The Chancellor has announced the National Living Wage will rise from April 2023.

The National Living Wage is currently set to £9.50 per hour for those aged 23 and over.

That will rise by 9.7% to £10.42 per hour from April.

Meanwhile, the rate for those aged 21-22 will rise from £9.18 to £10.18.

For those aged 18-20 it will rise from £6.83 to £7.49 per hour, and for those aged 16-17 it will rise from £4.81 to £5.28 per hour.

The Real Living Wage, as set by the Living Wage Foundation, is slightly higher than the current National Living Wage – £11.05 per hour for those working in London, and £9.90 for people outside the capital.

An estimated 11,000 people in Bath are earning below the Living Wage Foundation’s rate, according to the latest government figures.

That works out at around 10.5% of jobs in the area.

Across the country as a whole, an estimated 3.5 million people are earning less than the Real Living Wage.

That works out as 12.2% of jobs.
