Bike park scheme is a costly shambles
S Mcfarland was absolutely right to be incredulous about the Lib Dems’ mismanagement of the Entry Hill golf course re-development into a mountain bike park (“Come clean on risks with Entry Hill site”, Letters, November 17).
On so many grounds it is a shambles; environmentally, the business case, the huge capital cost, public consultation – as they say, “the Liberals couldn’t organise a celebration in a brewery”!
It used to be a rubbish dump for goodness sake. What’s wrong with it continuing as a gentle beginners’ golf course and an open space for walkers?
That doesn’t sound elitist to me as the councillors have suggested. And as for the business case – will a mountain bike park really work?
Consider this, if the previous annual net cost subsidy of the golf course by the council was divided into the enormous capital cost of the new bike park, how many more years of the golf course could we have enjoyed at very low cost?
It’s the square root of madness – but then that’s the Lib Dems for you. And the Queen Square traffic is not flowing too well either, is it?
