Golfers well aware of site’s changes
Many thanks to S Mcfarland for the in-depth, informative letter expressing many concerns about the Entry Hill site.
It is so alarming that it has required a Freedom of Information request to bring these detailed concerns, about possible contamination, to public notice. However, Entry Hill golfers would not be surprised. We were always aware that we played on an ever-changing landscape, as the old refuse site beneath our feet moved with the years. Slight undulations became ever more prominent highs and lows.
The odd shape, suggesting the underground collapse of some solid object, was not unknown.
The water searching the underground Lyn Brook created standing water on several fairways during the winter.
Then, of course, there was the problem of methane gas. The smell of gas had to be reported – and we did.
Levels of methane gas were very carefully monitored while the course was open. I wonder how often it is monitored now?
Are leisure councillors and officers being cavalier as they pursue the mountain bike project with such single-minded determination?
Leisure officers accompanied interested parties around the site, even before the project went out for public consultation.
As they did so weren’t they aware of the possible problems that could be posed by the ever-changing landscape of this former refuse site?
