Spring at The Egg Theatre

At The Egg, FIVE CHILDREN AND IT returns by popular demand this Christmas, appearing from 9 December to 15 January.

This sparkling new take on the classic story by E. Nesbit (The Railway Children) is revived by award-winning theatre company Bucket Club after receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences alike when it premiered in Bath last year.

Winter entertainm­ent continues at The Egg in January when Bath favourite SNOW MOUSE returns for an incredible eighth year, appearing with an enchanting tale for the very young (7 Jan – 5 Feb).

On Friday 3 February, The Egg’s Artistic Director Kate Cross and Bath panto legend Jon Monie join Chris Grimes for two live recordings of his podcast, THE GOOD LISTENING TO SHOW (all ages).

ERNIE’S JOURNEY is a magical circus adventure packed with pirates (5 Feb, ages 4-9), and Egg favourites Rhum + Clay present a play for older children reflecting the chaos of recent years EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED (9-11 Feb, ages 5-11).

For young audiences in half term, Simone De Jong from The Netherland­s brings a stunningly imaginativ­e wordless performanc­e set in amd around a tiny cardboard house in HERMIT (13-14 Feb, ages 2-6), and CLUB ORIGAMI returns by popular demand with the immersive and interactiv­e dance show (15-17 Feb, age 1-5).

Older children will enjoy THE SNOW BEAST, an action-packed adventure through science experiment­s and wintry wilderness­es! (18-19 Feb, age 6+)

Previous sell-out show THE DARK, based on the Lemony Snicket book and Jon Klassen illustrati­ons, returns on 25 – 26 February (age 4+), and another Jon Klassen series, the I WANT MY HAT BACK TRILOGY is brought to life by Youtube lockdown sensations Ian Nicholson and Sam Wilde (1-5 March, age 3+).

it’s ok is a new dance work for pre-school and KS1 children about supporting and looking after each other (11-12 March, age 3+) is followed by DINOSAURS AND ALL THAT RUBBISH which is a riotous hour of rock’n’roll and dancing dinosaurs with a message about saving the planet (18-19 March, age 3+).

For teenage audiences, Internatio­nal beatboxing star SK SHLOMO brings his award-winning solo show BREATHE direct from the

Royal Albert Hall, an award-winning mix of cutting-edge music and heartwarmi­ngly personal storytelli­ng (22-23 March, age 12+).

Two more shows return due to overwhelmi­ngly popular demand – Let’s All Dance’s delightful version of TEDDY BEARS’ PICNIC (25-26 March, age 1-8), and A SQUARE WORLD, a quirky tale of friends enjoying the same routine day after day, until an unexpected change! (27-29 March, ages 4-9).

At Easter, students from the TRB Theatre School present a new production of Oscar Wilde’s modern fairy tale THE SELFISH GIANT (4-6 April, age 8+) and THE BLUE BADGE BUNCH, described as “the disability Taskmaster” is an entertaini­ng gameshow where each round gives kids and grown ups the chance to learn about Autism and Cerebral Palsy among others (13-14

April, age 4+).

As exam season approaches, Box Clever return to The Egg with their brilliantl­y concise Shakespear­e adaptation­s for KS3 & 4 students. ROMEO AND JULIET (25-28 April) and MACBETH (29-30 April, both ages 10+) both ensure that some of Shakespear­e’s most iconic characters do not remain distant literary creations, and speak directly to 21st century audiences.
