Wilson enters club record books

-

Scott Wilson’s second goal in two games was in the nick of time in terms of the record books.

The forward notched his 32nd goal of 2023, the highest for a Bath City player in a calendar year since Paul Randall’s 37 in 1990.

Wilson went into the final two games sitting one behind Dave Gilroy and Martin Paul, who recorded 31 in 2008 and 2000 respectively.

But he continued his fine start to the season by breaking the deadlock in the A4 Derby and was delighted with his contribution.

“The last few weeks I’ve been asking constantly about different records,” Wilson laughed. “I’m buzzing to get the goal. “I was thinking about the record, even when I had that chance in the first half.

“We were finding it hard to break through, they were defending well.

“Cody [Cooke] came on and gave us a bit more of a direct dimension. He’d done well to knock it down for Jordan [Thomas] and I was in the right place at the right time.

“After I was subbed I was constantly asking how long was left. It was a relief to hang on and get three points against a very good team.”

Wilson praised his team’s efforts, noting the stability of the side after they hit 40 points and third place heading into the New Year.

City were unchanged from Saturday’s win over Welling and have made the fewest alterations to their line-ups in National League South this term.

“We’ve got that chemistry,” he said.

“I know what movements I have to make for each player.

“We’re pleased with where we are. We didn’t pick up the points we wanted in the five games prior to Welling but we were happy with how we were performing.

“We knew it was just minor details to sort which we’ve done now and it’s got us back on a good run.”
