It’s all about the science

BBC History Magazine - - Letters -

I did not find your historians’ views on civilisation convincing ( A New Civilisation Rises, March).

Art is very jolly, but its influence on civilisation is minimal. Civilisations are mainly dependent on, and characterised by, the level of their technology. Most historians know little science and so find it comfortable to ignore it. Hence the exaggeration of art’s importance. Dr John Wesson, Abingdon
