Some of the world’s ear­li­est po­lice cus­tody pho­to­graphs, un­earthed in the West Mid­lands Po­lice ar­chives, have been re­vealed. The re­mark­able images were taken at the Moor Street pub­lic of­fice in Birm­ing­ham from the 1850s–70s and fea­ture crim­i­nals rang­ing from mur­der­ers to pick­pock­ets. Ann Vick­ers, pic­tured here, was charged with steal­ing a pocket watch in 1862.
