Jack Dorgan

BBC History Magazine - - WWI Eyewitness Accounts -

Former miner Jack was badly wounded on the western front in 1916. He never forgot the traumatic death of two of his pals, Jackie Oliver and Bob Young. When I interviewed him at his home in Nottingham, he said that every time he saw their names on the Menin Gate memorial in Ypres, he thought: “My name could have been on there as well!” Jack died in 1989.
