Pretty penny
In 2003, the 7nited States &epartment of 8eterans Affairs was still paying out a monthly military pension of 70 to the widow of a snion soldier who had fought in the American %ivil War, which ended in O8TS. Gertrude haneway had married her husband, hohn, a former officer in the 14th Illinois %avalry, in 1927 when he was 81 and she was 18. She lived to be 93, and the civil war pension was therefore paid out in three different centuries.
