1913–14. In 1910, he was appointed the director of the Indian Protection Service (SPI). He encouraged the later creation of the Xingu National Park,a territory where both indigenous people and the environment are protected.In Brazil, Rondon isa national hero, and the state of Rondônia is named after him.
