Orchestral musicians join forces in support of Ukraine
On Sunday 6 March, musicians gathered in London’s Trafalgar Square to perform an impromptu concert in protest at the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Conducted by Petr Limonov, the orchestra had been gathered together via a Whatsapp group and included violinist Jennifer Pike and, playing the horn, composer Gabriel Prokofiev.
‘At this time we are trying to do all we can for a horrific situation, and musicians only really know one way, which is to play,’ said Pike about the performance, which included the Ukrainian national anthem and Mykola Lysenko’s Prayer for Ukraine.
