‘Hello, goodbye’ as Nethsingha announces St John’s exit
Little more than a month after introducing the first three girl choristers to the choir of St John’s College, Cambridge, director of music Andrew Nethsingha has announced his own exit. Nethsingha, who is seen here with new recruits Amelia, Ingrid and Martha, will be heading to London as the new organist and master of the choristers at Westminster Abbey, a post he takes over from James O’donnell. His departure marks the end of a 15-year spell at St John’s that has seen the famous choir go from strength to strength, not least with a string of acclaimed recordings. It is the first of the five traditional Oxbridge boys’ choirs to have admitted girls to the choirstalls.
