Har­vest­ing reeds and sedges for thatch­ing can off­set man­age­ment costs, and ro­ta­tional crop­ping en­sures refuge ar­eas are al­ways avail­able for wildlife. Reedbeds host species in­clud­ing breed­ing har­vest mice, bearded tits, bit­terns and marsh har­ri­ers.
