BBC Wildlife Magazine - - Reviews -

t is delightful to look at these pages, nature is evident, art concealed,” said botanist Johann Goethe when describing the beautiful paintings of Franz Bauer and his brother Ferdinand. Now a collection of their detailed botanical and zoological illustrations from the 18th and 19th centuries has been published to tie in with the launch of an exhibition at the Natural History Museum, London, named ‘The Bauer Brothers: Masters of Scientific Illustration’. The exhibition reveals how the siblings viewed the natural world, through 100 paintings from the museum’s archives. It runs from 7 November 2015 to 26 February 2017, and entry is free.
