Al­bino squir­rels are oc­ca­sion­ally seen in the UK and can cause quite a stir when spot­ted in the gar­den. Al­binism is a rare oc­cur­rence caused by a gene mu­ta­tion that af­fects the pro­duc­tion of pig­men­ta­tion of the skin. Be­cause of their bright ap­pear­ance, al­bino squir­rels are more likely to be pre­dated on in the wild.
