An ‘ugly’ surprise

I was surprised to see the warthog was one of The Ugly Five in Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s new book (Hey, Good Lookin’, November 2017). Having watched The Lion King Disney movie, I assumed that Pumbaa the warthog was a well-loved animal!

I fear that Donaldson and Scheffler may be disappointed in their hope of encouraging support for less attractive animals. Children may want to visit a zoo to see these creatures but this interest does not often continue as they grow up.
