NEW SPECIES

RED SILKY ANTEATER

BBC Wildlife Magazine - - Wild News -

WHAT IS IT? The world just got six new contenders s to the title of the cutest animal on Earth. Silky anteaters have long been considered to belong to a single species, but a new analysis of hundreds of museum specimens suggests it should be split into seven, including a dashing red silky variety.

WHERE IS IT? Widespread and not uncommon across the forests of South and Central America, silky anteaters are arboreal, nocturnal, solitary, elusive and rather mysterious. Little is known about their behaviour or ecology.

A snoozy silky anteater doesn’t need to descend to the ground to sleep.
