The only straightforward way to visit the Commander Islands is currently as part of an expedition cruise from May to September. Most trips start or end at the port of Petropavlovsk on the Kamchatka Peninsula, some 8.5 hours’ flight from Moscow.

UK nationals require a Russian visa and must also allow three months to process the additional landing documentation required.
