HISTORICAL USES

Pangolin meat was a valuable food source in Asia and Africa for thousands of years.

Historical reports describe physicians in Asia using pangolin scales to cure all sorts of ailments, from “bile disturbanc­es” to cholera.

Just as pangolins use scales to protect themselves, so artisans s crafted elaborate body armour r from m pangolin scales in China.

MODERN USES

Today, culinary uses of pango olins range from bushmeat in Africa to delicacies in high-end Asian restaurant­s. They’re even used d to make ‘pangolin wine’.

Pangolin body parts are still ll used in traditiona­l medicines across Africa and Asia, and falsely believed to have medicinal and aphrodisia­c properties.

Pangolin scales are now trafficked to the USA because they contain Tramadol HCL, a material for synthesisi­ng the dangerousl­y addictive illegal drug crystal methamphet­amine.
