Waiting for a brimstone
I read Chris Packham’s column (Notes from an English Wood, March 2018) on the last day of March, but it felt more like mid-January. I always enjoy his column, but this month I was so overwhelmed by it I felt I had to write in – it’s absolutely excellent, and so descriptive of how this month has been! March is certainly squelchy at the moment but there have been days when it felt like spring had definitely arrived. Unfortunately, I have yet to spot a brimstone this year but I’m sure it won’t be long. Penny Bridle, via email
