MOUTH WIDE OPEN

-

Nightjars are regular summer visitors to Qatar, where I took this photo in June. They are nocturnal birds that hunt insects at dawn and dusk. Due to their camouflage, they are tricky to see during the day so I was fortunate to get this photo at Irkaya Farm. I had to crawl towards the nightjar to avoid disturbing it and managed to take this eye-level image of its open mouth and mottled plumage. My excitement was beyond words. Vishnu Gopal, Kerala, India
