Amazing wildlife encounters

-

During the first few months of 2018, my friend and I travelled 600km from my home in Kolkata to Rashikulya Beach, in Odisha, India. We made this journey to photograph the mass nesting event, or arribada, of olive ridley sea turtles. Thousands of females arrive at the state’s beaches to nest and about 49 days later their hatchlings emerge and head out to sea. It was a dream come true to witness these youngsters approaching the Bay of Bengal alongside this adult. Saurabh Chakraborty, Kolkata, India

1 Struck gold

It was worth getting up early in April to visit Lindow Common, Cheshire, because I was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise and misty lake. I photographed this great crested grebe shaking water off its wings. Steve Palmer, Wilmslow, UK

While working in Kuwait, I went to the Salmi Desert to see birds of prey. I spotted a range of species including a griffon vulture, honey buzzard and this stunning steppe eagle. Sajan Raju, Pandalam, India

3 Cats clash

During a safari in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, India, I was very lucky to witness a fight between two tigers, which lasted about 20 minutes. Fortunately, the animals didn’t suffer any injuries. Pratik Humnabadkar, Pune, India

4 Beakful

I spent seven hours taking photographs at Karnala Bird Sanctuary, India. I was delighted to see and photograph this oriental dwarf kingfisher with a lizard in its beak. Nitin Chavan, Shirpur, India
