CAN CORAL RECOVER FROM BLEACHING?

BBC Wildlife Magazine - - OUR WILDWORLD -

Not all bleached corals go on to die. In fact, some regain their colour within days if conditions improve. However, if the bleaching is severe – as was the global event that occurred in 2016, killing off large numbers of coral – it can take up to 15 years for a reef to fully recover. With underwater heatwaves occurring more frequently due to climate change, scientists are concerned that damaged reefs do not have sufficient time to heal.
