Lofoten’s Big Three

-

WHITE-TAILED EAGLE

Resident all year, these huge raptors are most easily seen on boat trips around the islands. Views can be spectacular: some eagles will even come to seize fish held out by experienced guides. You might also see otters, grey seals and porpoises.

PUFFIN

Sightings are guaranteed from April to July at the huge seabird cliffs (Norway’s biggest) on the outlying island of Røst, together with razorbills, kittiwakes, shags and fulmars. Other seabirds in the Lofoten Islands include Arctic terns and great and Arctic skuas.

ORCA

Norway has one of the world’s largest populations of orcas, which in winter can be seen around the Lofoten Islands from cliffs and boats, singly and in small pods. If you’re lucky, you might also experience the Northern Lights.
