C areers in animal management offer many exciting possibilities. You could work in conservation or wildlife rehabilitation in a zoo, lab or domestic environment either in the UK or abroad.

Merrist Wood College has an Animal Management Centre designed to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for students. This exciting centre includes an arid biome, a tropical biome and a nocturnal room to house a wide variety of species and enable them to be studied and cared for in a more natural environment. It also houses a large collection of animals including meerkats, coatis, armadillo and red squirrels.

The tutors are enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable, and have industry-related experience as well as great connections with local organisations. “We have students currently working in many zoos across the UK,” says Luke Gates-Roberts, Animal Collection Manager and Lecturer at Merrist Wood College. “Our students also go off to work in charities, such as Compassion in World Farming and the RSPCA. Some set up their own businesses, especially if they’re working with companion animals, while others go on to continue their higher education and complete a BSc Hons Degree with us as well.”

The programmes Merrist Wood College provides will give you real, practical experiences, leading to invaluable skills and excellent employment prospects. There may also be the opportunity for international travel to locations such as the Mabula and Dinokeng game reserves in South Africa.

The college offers an exciting range of degree level programmes that are vocationally focused, combined with underpinning business knowledge and incorporating opportunities for industryrelated work experience.
