English wildcats

I was intrigued by the article on reintroducing the wild cat, ‘Should we bring back the wildcats of Olde England?’ (August 2018). As a conservationist, birdwatcher and cat owner, I am not convinced that England needs more cats. We are already knee-deep in feral and house cats that have a marked negative impact on wild bird populations. If I could be convinced that we were about to initiate a successful catch-neuter-rehome/ euthanise programme to tackle the feral cat problem, I might be persuaded. John Humphreys, via email
