Sea sanctuary
The Sea Life Trust in partnership with Whale and Dolphin Conservation launched the world’s first whale sanctuary in June. It will become the new home of two wild-caught female beluga whales currently in captivity – Little Grey and Little White – in spring 2019. The whales will take part in an incredible 9,650km journey from their captive home in Shanghai, China, to a natural ocean bay on the island of Heimaey, off the southern coast of Iceland. It is also the same location where Keiko, the star of Free Willy, spent some of the last years of his life.
