Head to the RSPB website to join in with this year’s garden wildlife survey. 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the event, which now sees over one million people taking part. By recording the number of garden birds and other wildlife, it is possible to spot dips in populations but also recognise success stories – blue tit numbers have increased by 20 per cent since the first survey took place in 1979. The format may not have changed in the past 40 years, but with a digital version of the pack now available, those keen to take part can do so without the need for paper, pen or postage. The perfect excuse for a bit of wildlife watching from the comfort of your home.
