Manta rays

Palau, Oceania

BBC Wildlife Magazine - - January -

A small island, approximately 1,000km off the coast of the Philippines, Palau offers one of the best opportunities to go scuba-diving with majestic manta rays. The winter months, particularly January and February, are the best time to swim alongside dozens in one location and the high season usually delivers calm, warm waters. These graceful rays, with a wingspan of up to 4m, inhabit the barrier reefs surrounding the archipelago, often visiting cleaning stations.
