What to see on a visit to Denali National Park in Alaska

1 GYRFALCON

The world’s largest falcon is present in the park all-yearround, unlike most of Denali’s birds. These powerful hunters are known to prey on snowshoe hares, ground squirrels and ptarmigan. They give birth to their chicks in March and care for them in freezing temperatures.

2 GRIZZLY BEAR

These omnivores are usually solitary, except for females accompanied by their cubs. Occasionally, they can be found congregating in small groups in areas abundant in food, such as berry patches or along rivers when salmon are spawning.

3 CARIBOU

The Denali caribou herd inhabits most of the park to the east of the Foraker River and north of the Alaska Range. Both sexes grow antlers, which can reach over a metre in length. In the summer, they are usually accompanied by calves, which are born from mid-May into June.
