The vampire plants that latch onto the roots of others.

There are others that share the dastardly lifestyle of the dodder… broomrapes ( below), which look like sickly and deathly orchids, and some of the toothworts are totally parasitic. In fact, in some ways, even more so than the dodder, as they only peek out (from the roots below ground) and become apparent to us when they flower – the rest of their life as an organism is lived entirely undergroun­d, feeding from the tissues of their host plant.
