Wangi-wangi white-eye

- SB

WHAT IS IT? White-eyes are a family of tropical and subtropical birds closely related to warblers and, more surprisingly perhaps, swallows and martins. They are an adaptable group and are particularly adept at colonising remote oceanic islands, many of which have their own endemic white-eye species.

WHERE IS IT? The Wangi-wangi whiteeye is endemic to a tiny island of the same name in Indonesia’s Wakatobi archipelago near Sulawesi. Though other white-eye species occur in the region, the closest relative of the Wangi-wangi lives more than 3,000km away in the Solomon Islands.
