Stop the shooting

BBC Wildlife Magazine - - Our Wild World -

The otherwise excellent review of the changes being made to the infamous Holkham estate in Norfolk by Patrick Barkham (Balancing act, July 2019) omits some serious and topical issues: the shooting of captive bred game birds and the use of lead shots. Hopefully both activities are banned at Holkham, and hopefully the shooting of all declining waders, including woodcock, will be banned under the new management. Allowing the continued shooting of waders, in a country where the overwhelming majority of people condemn the shooting of turtle doves and thrushes elsewhere, is unjustifiable.
