THE TROPICAL LANDSCAPES of the Caribbean have long been a bucketlist destination for many, and it’s not hard to understand why. This idyllic, untouched part of the world is renowned for its stunning white-sand beaches and brilliant blue waters, but beyond – and among – these, you’ll also find natural wonders like no other along with wildlife you may only see once in your lifetime. Draped in an emerald blanket of lush protected rainforest, Tobago is one of the finest spots in the Caribbean for outdoor pursuits. Beneath the treetops lie endless opportunities for adventure and discovery, from diving in beautiful spots around the island to walking in the mountainous Main Ridge Forest Reserve. Tobago is perhaps most celebrated for its eclectic bird population. Home to an incredible 230 vibrant species, it attracts flocks of bird-watchers eager to catch sight of the white-tailed sabrewing hummingbird, Trinidad motmot, rufous-tailed jacamar and rufous-vented chachalaca (Tobago’s national bird, it’s also known as the cocrico), among many others. When your arms need a break from the binoculars, be sure to explore the other gems in the island’s natural treasure trove, such as the majestic Argyle, Parlatuvier and Highlands Waterfalls, the beautiful Corbin Local Wildlife Park and the Adventure Eco Farm and Nature Reserve. One of the most unique activities found here (that you certainly won’t regret trying) is the bioluminescence tour – paddle boarding at night among glow-inthe-dark plankton. When in Tobago...
