While the ar­ti­cle re­lates to stran­d­lines, and hence ma­te­rial washed up, you are quite right that there are two species of res­i­dent cowries that can be found around the coasts of the UK. Our Bri­tish species, both in the genus Trivia, be­long to a sep­a­rate fam­ily to the trop­i­cal and sub­trop­i­cal species, but share the same shell shape and slit-like open­ing be­neath.
