MALTA Raptors

BBC Wildlife Magazine - - ASIATIC CHEETAH -

For Malta’s conservationists, countering the illegal killing of raptors and other birds has resulted in frequent confrontations with hunters. BirdLife Malta’s Nimrod Mifsud was taken to court in 2014 (while working with Chris Packham), but was subsequently cleared of trespassing. Other BirdLife members were prosecuted for illegal possession of protected species in 2015, but also cleared. “Rather than dangerous, let’s say it gets quite colourful here, from confronting gun-toting individuals to their attacks at an organisational level in court,” says BirdLife’s Nicholas Barbara.
