DR CONGO Gorillas

BBC Wildlife Magazine - - ASIATIC CHEETAH -

Park wardens in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have clashed this year with pygmy groups living around KahuziBiega National Park, home to eastern lowland, or Grauer’s, gorillas. Rangers have also been attacked and killed by rebel militias in the Virunga Mountains, where mountain gorillas are found, while a rebel group called Simba Mai-Mai occupies Maiko National Park – another stronghold for lowland gorillas – and controls illegal activities such as artisanal mining and the bushmeat trade.
